How To Order your Solo Costume

First, think about what kind of a dress you would like. Style, color, fabrics, design. Take a look at our pricelist to get an idea of the costs involved. If you have questions about any of these matters we will be glad to assist you.

When you have an idea of what you want, contact us to book your spot. We will send you a package containing a design sheet, measurement chart and our design catalogue.

Take a look at the different options and decide on your costume design. We can also work with one of your own designs if you desire. Take your measurements according to the instructions (make sure these are properly done, if unsure get a second opinion) and send all the paperwork back to us.

Once the paperwork is received we will give you a final estimate of the costs and will ask you for a deposit of 50% as conformation of your order.

We will make up a mock cotton bodice according to your measurements to ensure a proper fit. Pin or mark any alterations on the bodice and return to us. Construction of the dress will only begin if you are completely happy with the bodice.

Please allow for  a minimum of  8 weeks delivery time from the moment of receiving the final paperwork and the return of the cotton bodice.

When your solo dress is near completion, we will ask you to pay the remaining amount before shipping of the dress.

Measurements (click here for a diagram)

(1) Chest / Bust - measure around the fullest part of the chest / bust.

 (2) Waist - look for the narrowest point. Ask the dancer to relax and to take a breath
in and out before you measure.

(3) Shoulder to Cuff - measure from the edge of the shoulder, straight down the outer arm to where you would like the sleeve to stop.

(4) Shoulder to neck – measure from the start of the neck to the top of the shoulder.

 (5) Finished Skirt Length - measure from the waist to 4" above the knee, reminding the dancer to stand up straight and look ahead. No looking down!

 (6) Shoulder to shoulder - measure across the shoulder blades to where the armhole sleeves normally are.

(7) Back Neck Bone to waist - measure from where the zippers normally stop straight down along the spine to the waist.

 (8) Neck – measure around the neck where the neckline of a T-shirt normally falls.  This should be fairly equal to the shoulder to shoulder measurement.

(9) Thigh Measurement - measure around the thigh where the kick pants will set comfortably.

 (10) optional- Front Curve – measure from the base of the neck, over the bust of the dancer down to the waistline (not shown in diagram).

Tips

Measure over underwear for more accurate measurements. Don't measure over normal clothing.
Please don't add extra for growth, we will allow room in the seams if desired.
Make sure the dancer is standing straight with their shoulders back and looking straight ahead. Have the dancer point her toe to make sure the hemline will be where she wants it on stage.

If the hemline is difficult to estimate, let the dancer kneel down, with her legs folded under. Mark up 10 cm above the point of the knee. Let the dancer stand again and measure skirt length. If unsure, err on the short side since hemlines are currently rising.
